NAILSWORTH will become home to a support group that targets those who suffer from sight loss in September.

The Stroud and District Macular Support Group will meet between 10.30am and 12.30pm from Wednesday, September 19, the group will then meet at the same time and venue on the third Wednesday of every month.

Tom McInulty the Macular Society regional manager spoke of the important function the group provides.

"The Stroud and District Macular Support Group provides a real lifeline for people living in the community with sight loss," said Mr McInulty.

"Peer support offered by the groups is absolutely vital and it is incredibly reassuring for people to know that there are others who truly understand their situation."

In addition to the groups relocation, they are appealing to anyone who is willing to give up some of their time to help at its meetings.

Volunteer work will incorporate general tasks such as booking guest speakers, helping with refreshments and other general tasks.

Age-related macular degeneration affects the central vision and is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK, affecting more than 600,000 people, so the work they provide is extremely important.

The group will hold a summer launch on Wednesday, August 15 from 11.30am to 2.30pm at the Avening Social Club in Woodstock Lane.

Following this all meetings will take place at Concord Shelter Housing in Newmarket Road, Nailsworth.
