A Stroud road is likely to remain closed until after the weekend after a water pipe burst with such force that it lifted surface of a road in Stroud.

Stroud News and Journal:

Police were alerted to the leak on Slad Road at around 4pm on Thursday (August, 16) afternoon and closed the road after liaising with Severn Trent Water and Highways.

Images from the scene yesterday show a significant water leak, which caused the tarmac to lift several inches in places.

Additionally a number of properties were without water while Severn Trent investigated the problem.

Severn Trent crews have repaired the leak, but the damage to the road will take longer to fix to ensure that the road is made safe for road users.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent said that it was the company's priority to reopen the road as soon as possible.

"The pipe that burst has been repaired, but has caused some damage to the road, this means it may take some time for the road to be put back to normal and safe again for road users," the spokesperson said.

"Our priority will be to get the road opened as soon as we can, but it may take a couple of days. Again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience."

Businesses along the road, which leads from the centre of Stroud into the Slad Valley, have confirmed that they remain open for business.

A member of the team at the popular Woolpack Inn in Slad said: "We're open and looking forward to the weekend, hopefully our customers will find an alternative route to come and join us as usual."
