Opposition to new parking charges in the Stroud district has come from all directions in all manner of voices - but none as consistent and fierce as those from Nailsworth.
The mobilisation of the town’s residents and traders against Stroud District Council’s parking review has been an impressive feat of local democracy.
Credit has to go to the town council, with its efforts headed up by mayor Jonathan Duckworth - clearly the wrong man to pick a parking fight with.
But traders did not hold back in lending their weight too.
Local business people like Diana Stiles repeatedly made the case that shoppers were attracted to Nailsworth for exactly its free parking.
The public meeting held in the town in July rallied these forces in dramatic fashion.
One can’t help but think again in the face of a room full of people - many having to stand - all raising their hands in opposition.
So, with the review now dropped, the message is clear - you really can’t take the P out of Nailsworth.
