FLOWERS, vegetables and various handmade arts and crafts were showcased to a large number of visitors at Slimbridge Gardening Club’s Summer Flower Show last Saturday.

Entries exceeded all expectation following the cold spring and extreme heat of the last few months.

The village hall was filled with a wonderful display of flowers, produce, artistic floral decorations and cookery, along with quality entries in the children’s section.

Steve House gained the most points in both the vegetable and cookery sections.

Club president, George Tarr, had once again grown prize winning dahlias in a challenging season and took home the Silver Rose Bowl for the most points in the flower section and the Jim Barge dahlia trophy.

Phil Sealey was awarded ‘best exhibit’ in the flower section for his sweet peas.

The flower arranging was also of a very high standard, with Carole Jeffes winning overall with her exhibit on a nursery rhyme theme of ‘Oranges and Lemons’.

There were high quality entries in the children’s section, with amazing homemade bug houses and miniature gardens.

Charlotte Bottger took home the junior cup and Harry Turner the cup in the senior section.

The coveted Silver Challenge Cup, for the most points in the show, was presented to Steve House by the club’s president.
