Four cows have now been killed on the Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons this year - and police are now trying to find those responsible.

Police have received four reports of cows being fatally injured - including one this last week - after being hit by cars on the Commons over the past few weeks.

Officers are now working to prevent further incidents and identify the drivers involved, Gloucestershire Police says.

This includes considering information provided to the force following the latest incident and they may take action.

In a statement, Gloucestershire Police said: “These collisions not only cause significant suffering to the animals who have previously been left injured at the roadside for hours, but have a huge financial impact on the graziers who rely on these animals for their livelihood.

“We would urge all motorists travelling across common land to be mindful that livestock is wandering loose and to adjust their speed accordingly.

“Collisions involving livestock must be reported to police in person within 24hrs. Failure to do so could result in prosecution under the road traffic act.

Any person with information relating to these collisions, or who would like to discuss this issue further should contact Acting Sergeant Tom Coombs, Beat Officer for Stroud Rural at Stroud Police Station either by calling 101 and asking for the Stroud Neighbourhood Team or by using the online reporting tool on the constabulary website.
