A man who smashed a window at The Diner has come back to the Stroud restaurant to apologise.

Tamzin Malleson, who opened The Diner a year ago, was “heartbroken” after vandals broke one of The Diner’s windows on Friday night.

The restaurant's door was then smashed on Tuesday morning.

A nearby yoga studio on Nelson Street - Stroud Yoga Space - was also caught up in the Friday smashing spree.

Tamzin's partner - well-known actor Keith Allen - had taken to Facebook to condemn the vandals.

“To whoever this may concern,” he wrote on Tuesday.

“On Friday night two drunks put in the window of the diner and yoga centre.

“This morning at 8.50am the door glass was kicked in - the third time this year - the first two times it was junkies but not this time.

“I know you’re not a junkie - you didn’t have the haunted desperate look or demeanour of one.

“In fact you look like you may have spent some time in the gym.”

Those behind the vandalism on Friday - two men, aged 18 and 27 - were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, police have said, and have been released under investigation.

But in a later post, Keith detailed how one of the vandals came back to the restaurant to apologise.

“Tamzin doesn't known anything about the post - she's not on Facebook and is working in The Diner," he wrote.

“So imagine my surprise when I phoned to see how she was and she said: 'You're not going to believe this. The guy who did it just walked in, asked for me, and apologised for putting the window in.

"'It was incredible. He was genuinely apologetic, said he'd been up all night, didn't know he'd done it and then offered to pay to have it repaired.'"

For Keith, his faith in humanity was restored.

"Now I don't know if he read the post or not.

"If he did then all of your responses and messages of support I feel sure would have steered him in the right direction.

"If he didn't then respect to him for manning up and accepting responsibility for his actions and going in to apologise to Tamzin directly.

"Either way, it's win win."
