A 55-year-old woman from Stroud has been arrested for drink driving after she ploughed into several parked cars last night.

Residents of Bisley Old Road - at the top of town - had their Wednesday evenings interrupted when the driver smashed into their cars outside of their homes.

Stroud News and Journal:

The woman - who was later arrested on suspicion of driving over the legal alcohol limit - caused a chain reaction, with the first car she hit shunting the others.

One resident, Essia Harding, says at least two cars have been written off.

“It was a nightmare for all involved,” she told the SNJ.

“I have no transport and my car is a write-off.

“I am a single parent trying to juggle school and work. I have lost probably £2,000 on my car too.”

Stroud News and Journal:

Essia - who claims the suspected drunk driver was going over 40mph - is at her wits' end with motorists ignoring the speed limits on the road.

“This is the second crash outside our houses this year that has resulted in serious damage to vehicles.”

“It’s a 20mph zone from the centre of town right up to past Belmont Road, yet at any time of the day or night people are driving at up to 60mph on this road - including lorries and buses.

“What is it going to take for something to be done - for someone to be killed?”

Stroud News and Journal:

Three cars were written off in a crash on the road last February.

Stroud's town council recently secured funding for four vehicle activated road signs that automatically warn drivers when they are going too fast.

The council has not yet announced where the signs will be placed.

Yesterday’s crash on Bisley Old Road also comes after several cars had their tyres slashed on the road over the weekend.
