Past and Present – Paganhill Corner by Howard Beard
This view of around 1910 looks down a much narrower Stratford Road towards Stroud. The shape of the large tree suggests it is an elm.
The building on the left has now gone and been replaced by Tesco’s Express Store and its forecourt. The curved wall around the house on the right has also disappeared.
Behind it are the premises of George Harper. His advertisement board records him as a building contractor, decorator, undertaker and coffin maker.
The scene today is almost unrecognisable but, to prove we have the right location, the spire of Paganhill’s Anglican Church is visible in both pictures in the distance.
