TALENTED artist and former SGS College student Sam Davis visited his old campus in Stroud to give an inspirational talk to the latest cohort of art students.

Sam, who studied the level 3 art and design course at SGS, spent time speaking with the college’s learners, offering advice and demonstrating some of his techniques.

Sam also surprised his former tutors with highly detailed portraits of each of them during the visit on Tuesday, September 11.

One of the lucky recipients was drawing coordinator at SGS, Simon Packard.

Speaking about Sam’s visit Simon commented: “I’m thrilled that Sam was able to visit us and share his expertise with our students. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a former student go on to do great things.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the fantastic portrait he gave me. It will take pride of place on my wall.”

Following on from his success at SGS, Sam is now studying a three year intensive drawing and painting course at the prestigious Academy of Art in Barcelona, a highly specialised school dedicated to the teaching of drawing, painting, sculpture and digital art, with teaching methods derived from the classical-realist tradition.

Young people with a passion for art can follow in Sam’s footsteps by enrolling onto an art course at SGS.

Course information can be found on the College’s website.

Alternatively, the College is holding its first open event of the academic year, Saturday, October 6, where visitors can meet with college staff and take a tour of the campus and its facilities.
