A TEENAGER was taken to court over a text message spat.

Emma Cox, 18, admitted sending messages to another girl between October 31 and December 17 which caused anxiety and distress.

Stroud Magistrates Court heard that there was history between the two after the victim had previously reported Cox to police, accusing her of causing damage to her car.

Defending Christine Graham said: "My client went to the police as she was concerned.

"The injured party was asking her for money for something which she wasn't involved in."

She added that a initial text from the victim provoked a reaction from Cox, who lives in King Street, Stroud, and a number of her friends.

"The injured party sent a text to my client," she said.

"It seemed to be tongue in cheek saying I hope you're having fun saving'.

"My client replied to the text but she didn't do it to be malicious or nasty.

"There was an element of frustration."

Cox was fined £50 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
