STROUD FELL silent this morning during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Residents from across the town and district stopped what they were doing as a mark of respect towards our soverign on this Bank holiday.

The Fountain in Slad Road (pictured) was one of the several pubs across the town which showed the state funeral on their TV screens.

Families, friends and regulars gathered together there to watch the historic occasion.

Union Flags were draped along the bar and in the window with many in attendance wearing black.

Those in the pub seemed to be in good spirits, spending time with their loved ones, as many across the region and country would have done at home or with their local community.

Cream tea and sandwiches are on offer in the Fountain Inn this afternoon following the service.

A group also watched it in Brody's in Stroud High Street.

Other pubs to show the funeral include the Crown in Paganhill, The Kings' Head, King's Stanley and The Ragged Cot in Minchinhampton.

Places of worship including Holy Trinity Church in Minchinhampton and St George's Church in Nailsworth also showed the funeral.

Bells could be heard before the funeral at St Laurence's Church.

Vue Cinema in Merrywalks, Stroud, also had a special viewing of the funeral - the event was sold out.

"I know that many people across Stroud, the Valleys and Vale are downing tools today for the state funeral," said Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie

"Whether you are remembering Her Majesty The Queen, mourning her loss and celebrating her life in private or with others, I hope you have a peaceful day.

"The funeral has been planned for decades with the armed forces playing key roles as we saw with the fabulous procession the other day so it is meticulously organised."

During the funeral and throughout the morning the town centre was very quiet and empty with the vast majority of shops in the town shut for the day.
