Gladiators crumble

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Gladiators suffered a five-wicket defeat against Hampshire Hawks yesterday despite a ton from Alex Gidman, writes Rob Iles.
The result was more unlikely as the county reached an impressive 350-5 from their 50 overs, but after rain interrupted the match the Hawks reached their revised target of 240 from 30 overs with three balls to spare at the Rose Bowl.
Australian Marcus North (85) offered good support to vice-captain Gidman (105), who scored his first hundred in the Friends Provident Trophy.

Chris Benham (54 not out) and Nic Pothas (43) had other ideas though as the Hawks scored 242-5 from 29.3 overs to win on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
