John McEnroe in Stroud - you cannot be serious

WHILE all eyes were on Wimbledon at the weekend. shoppers in Stroud were wondering if one famous player had seriously lost his sense of direction.

Anyone could have been forgiven for doing a double take as it seemed a famous American tennis player, famed for his petulance and tantrums was enjoying a game on a mock-grass court outside the Subscription Rooms.

Various members of the public were invited to play and act as the ball-boys.

But this was no typical tennis match and the feckless umpire seemed even less able to cope with John McEnroe's capricious anger than the huge numbers of umpires he soundly berated during his playing days.

The game was part of a programme of street entertainment and McEnroe, aka Jem Hulbert is a performer in The Fairly Famous Family act.

Various other acts have been booked for Stroud until the end of September, and the next performace will be Mr Spin, on of Australia's finest juggling acts, on July,19
