Property up for sale near Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate

The site located in Avening includes a grade II listed building known as The Old Quarries as well as the surrounding 7.3 acre grounds. 

The Old Quarries was built in the 19th century and later owned by Viscount Lee of Fareham who extended it, constructing a gallery to house his art collection in 1938. 

During World War Two, it even housed some of the artworks from the National Gallery for protection of the collection. 

More recently it was previously used as a residential school for children with special educational needs run by the Home Farm Trust.

The parkland which surrounds the property adjoins Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Estate.

The property also features large rooms with high ceilings, some original features and a historic walled garden.

The site is being sold by estate agency Carter Jonas who have described it as an "exciting and unusual development."

The site also has planning consent for the renovation and conversion of several existing buildings, including The Old Quarries, as well as the construction of six new dwellings.

In total, the development would form 11 homes - ranging from five, four and three bedrooms - through a combination of renovation, demolition and rebuilding.
