Stroud News and Journal: Pupils from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Nympsfield competed in the Wotton and DursleySt Joseph's headteacher Clare Howells said: "The children have been training for the races since September.

"We have a committed parent, Mr Tim Britton, who plans the training sessions and this is supported by a member of staff and other parents.

"We have 30 runners – which is amazing for such a small village primary school.

"We are so proud of the children, they not only do their best on the course but in supporting each other to keep going especially when things get tough.

"Congratulations to all of our runners, what a brilliant set of results each and every one of them striving to be the best that they can be.

"When added altogether, the results meant that not only did we win the big school competition but we were also top scoring overall for the second year running!

"There were also some awards presented to the children for the most improved performances over the season.

"Congratulations to Felix Wooldrige, Ava Montgomery and Hannah Watson for showing great resilience and always striving to be the best that they can be.

"Six of our runners, Grace Batton, Orla Staff, Raffy Britton, Alex Almeda and Arthur Jordan were selected to compete at the county championships, which took place last Saturday.

"What an amazing day our runners had at the final cross country event.

"We had runners who certainly made it their best race and they  competed against the best of the best and all did incredibly well.

"Well done to them all for qualifying and for great performances on the day.

"I would like to thank all of the parents for supporting this event. I understand how precious weekends are but you brought and supported your children and the others, whatever the weather.

"I would like to thank again Mr Britton for training our runners and preparing them so well for the races, Mrs Montgomery for supporting the club every week and Mr Munday and Mr Wright for their support of the club as well.

"What a great season they have had again.

"Mr Britton is taking this half term off but will be back in the summer term for athletics.

"District Sports, here we come!"
