SEVERAL public toilets in Stroud have been temporarily closed.

The toilets, which are owned by Stroud District Council, were closed following a routine test.

A Stroud District Council spokesperson said: "This is a precautionary measure after high levels of bacteria were found during routine testing. The bacteria identified is not legionella.

"There have been no reported cases of any infection.

"Further testing and analysis is now taking place, and the appropriate measures will be taken once the results are known.

"We will ensure the toilets are open as soon as possible, however the public’s safety is our primary concern."
