YATE'S Georgina Moore has spoken of her pride at representing England in an individual event for the first time.

Georgina Moore, who has a physical disability, competes in Boccia, a sport similar to bowls.

After starting playing Boccia herself in various competitions, she was identified as having potential and asked to join the England Futures Squad.

Recently she represented England in her first individual challenger Boccia event, which took place in Northern Ireland, which she won.

Georgina, who was awarded Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero for the South West a couple of years ago, has dreams of making the Paralympic games in Los Angeles in four years time.

She says that competing in Boccia has given her a purpose in life, adding that she is so grateful for the support from the Yate community.

"Everyone should have the right to compete in a sport and with a severe disability Boccia is the only sport that is fully inclusive.

"It has given me a purpose in life alongside running my successful GEM Boccia Club.

"Not many people will ever get that opportunity, so I’m immensely proud.

"As an elite athlete my dream is of course to go to the Paralympics. Unfortunately I started too late to meet the Paris 2024 selection, so I will be working hard to get selected for LA 2028.

"I will be competing as much as I can to boost my rankings and catch the eye of the GB talent scouts.

"I have been invited to represent England in my first European competition, in the Czech Republic in November.

"I am so grateful for everyone’s support, especially the local community, which gives me the boost to keep working hard.

"Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far, without this generosity I wouldn’t be able to afford to travel for competitions."
