SUPER fundraiser David Wood is tackling three challenges this year to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust.

The 27-year-old, who trekked the Great Wall of China in August and ran four marathons in 2006, completed a 55-mile walk around Manchester on Friday.

Now he is training for the Three Peaks Challenge and the Chicago Marathon later this year.

David, a community fundraiser at the trust's headquarters in Stroud, is employed to help others organise charity events.

"Since working at the trust, I have heard about some of the terrible things that have happened to people, but also about the ways in which people have fought back and turned their lives around," he said.

"I have drawn a lot of inspiration from that."

During the first fundraiser on Friday, David completed a figure of eight loop around Manchester in 23 hours and 27 minutes. He will attempt to climb Britain’s three tallest mountains during the Three Peaks Challenge between September 4 and 6.

Then on October 11, he will put on his running shoes and fly to the USA for the Chicago marathon.

The total distance of the three challenges is 106.8 miles. David hopes the three events will bring the total funds he has raised during his three and a half years at the trust to £10,000.

This year, he has raised about £380.
