BRISTOL Old Vic Theatre School's production of Tess of the D’Urbervilles comes to Cotswold Playhouse on Saturday.
Set against the changing but still idyllic Dorset landscape, the story of Tess Durbeyfield – wronged by one man, abandoned by another – caused great controversy when the novel was first published in 1891. The power of the story and the fate of Tess, continues to stir strong emotions over a hundred years later.
Aided by Michael Fry’s powerful adaptation and using period country songs to underline and comment on the story, this ensemble production promises to be a stirring, dramatic and physical piece of theatre.
Tess of the D’Urbervilles is at Cotswold Playhouse, Parliament Street, Stroud on Saturday at 7.30pm, £11. Tickets are available from the Sub Rooms (01453 760960), or on the door.
