GREEN-FINGERED enthusiasts are finishing planting, watering hanging baskets and pulling up rogue weeds ahead of the judging for Stroud in Bloom on Monday, July 13.
Dozens of individuals and organisations who helped win the silver gilt in last year’s competition are now going for gold.
Malcolm Tarling, chairman of the Stroud in Bloom committee, said: "We always hope for gold and so far it is looking good. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed."
The Stroud in Bloom committee has put up hanging baskets and planters at the railways station and also put up more handing baskets and tidied the small garden at Stroud registry office in Parliament Street.
A record total of 15 shops are taking part in a floral window display competition.
All the businesses on Fromeside Industrial Estate along Dr Newton’s Way have hanging baskets, while parishioners at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Beeches Green have planted up the garden at the entrance of the building.
Stroud Town Council also also put troughs and planters around the town and planted up areas including the roundabout at Merrywalks and the plot at St Ismier Corner.
