Organisations receive nearly £3,000 from town council


GRANTS have been handed out to seven community groups by Stroud Town Council.

The money, which amounts to nearly £3,000, was pledged by the grant applications committee on Monday, June 29.

Summer Street Area Community Association received £500 towards a notice board and running costs.

Stroud Fairtrade Group was granted £500 towards the cost of printing leaflets, a directory and visual aids, including leaflets and banners.

Make a Meal of It, a shared meals community group in Uplands, was given £300 to help buy cooking equipment.

Stroud Biodiesel Club received £500 to pay for five months’ rent of its headquarters.

Top of Town Community Association was given £210 to help buy a gazebo that can be hired out or use at fundraising events.

Stroud Country Show was granted £500 towards the cost of sheep hurdles, rosettes and public toilets for the event at Stratford Park on Saturday, July 18.

Meanwhile Stroud Nature Company Ltd, a not-for-profit company, received £400 to help run the Stroud Festival of Nature at the country show.

The town council provides quarterly grants for organisations or events that are either based in the parish or benefit residents in the parish.
