Hundreds enjoy annual Bisley fete and flower show

A RACING experience in an Aston Martin was among the top prizes on offer at Bisley’s annual flower show and fete on Saturday, August 29.

The once-in-a-lifetime prize was donated by Government minister and car enthusiast Lord Drayson, who lives in the area.

Other highlights included the grand opening at 2pm by life-long Bisley resident Olive Burkitt.

This year’s flower queen was 11-year-old Molly Banyard, who was accompanied by no fewer than eight attendants.

Visitors also enjoyed a host of attraction, including performances from Avening Silver Band, a pet show, a children’s fancy dress competition with an alien theme, a bouncy castle, home made teas and a variety of stalls.

New additions for 2009 included a snail race and a special appearance by women morris dancers Belles of London.

Bisley’s annual flower show, which took place alongside the fete, featured a wide range of classes showcasing some of the finest produce in the area.

All Proceeds from the fete will go towards the upkeep of Bisley’s historic All Saints’ Church.

Organiser Peter Thorp said: "It is one of the best traditional fetes and flower shows in the district and a super afternoon out for people of all generations."
