Stroud Rambling Club IOW holiday EARLY in September, 19 members of the Stroud Rambling Club journeyed by coach to the Southhampton ferry terminal en-route to the Hambledon Hotel, Shanklin to experience a week's walking on the Isle of Wight.
The hotel provided local walk leaders for each of our 10 mile day walks and organised a light lunch taken at village pubs, a photographic museum and a Roman Villa.
With wall to wall sunshine all week we saw the island at its best. Two days were spent on the 19 mile East Yar Trail from Niton to Bembridge whilst on other days we explored Tennyson Down, Alum Bay, Newtown Creek and the coast path on the hilly south coast passing through Ventnor. A visit to the Shanklin Theatre and a very entertaining magician, apart from excellent food, helped us relax in comfort without our boots in the evenings.
For details of forthcoming walks visit your local library, who keep a copy of our programme, or look at www.stroudramblingclub.org.uk
