Stroud-based Meningitis Trust wins outstanding in-house PR award

Stroud-based Meningitis Trust is celebrating today after winning ‘Outstanding in-house PR team’ at last night’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations PRide Awards for the West of England, with an appplicationtitled ‘Small Team, Big Achievement’.

The team, which consists of five members of staff, raises the profile of the Trust and its (FREE) support services that it offers to those affected by meningitis and raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis and its after-effects.

Some of the team’s key achievements, in addition to continuing to raise the charity’s profile, include revamping current literature, such as the charity’s thrice yearly Headlines magazine and annual review; the team increasing the level of celebrity support, so that wider audiences could be reached through name-recognition; producing a Trust-wide DVD project which raises the Trust’s profile, illustrating the impact of meningitis, highlighting how the charity helps people, and encouraging individuals, companies and organisations to give support.

As a charity which is reliant on voluntary contributions, every penny really does count, so budgets for projects are minimal, with the emphasis on achieving value for money.

The PRide Awards is the only awards scheme which showcases the best PR work being carried out across the UK regions and nations. Reaching the shortlist proves to the industry that the Trust’s work has been judged to be among the best in the UK, so winning the award just confirms this.

Sue Davie, Chief Executive of the Meningitis Trust, says: “Winning gold at the awards is a fantastic accolade to the work the team does; even more so because these are not charity awards, but PR industry awards, so the team was up against companies, local authorities and PR agencies.

“The team is special as it is now the first point of contact for national, regional and trade journalists seeking expert advice or comment on meningitis. In turn, this has supported the charity’s strengthening of its position for the future, as the only meningitis charity in the UK to support everyone coping with the impact of meningitis, through its range of professional, emotional and financial support services.

“Meningitis is a dreadful disease and we will continue to raise much-needed awareness of its signs and symptoms as well as the Trust’s services. The media is fantastic in supporting the Trust and we are extremely grateful for this recognition”.
