FELINE fans are urgently needed to help home some furry friends since a Cotswold animal charity became inundated with strays.

The South Cotswolds branch of the RSPCA is appealing for cat lovers to come forward and provide a home for some of their long-standing residents.

They now have around 45 cats and are struggling to take in any more.

Carolyn Blackburn, from the RSPCA, said: "We have had a bad year and an awful lot of kittens.

"We don’t like to have the cats in for a long time because we want them to enjoy a nice family life curled up on a sofa."

The RSCPA is keen to re-home the cats so they have more space in the cattery.

"Obviously we will find space if we have to but if we had a call now from a to say we needed to take 20 cats from a household, we would have a problem," she said.

Over 20 of the rescued animals are being temporarily looked after by the Manor House Farm Boarding Cattery in Winstone, which has already re-homed 122 this year.

One of their oldest residents is three-year-old Lady who has been at the cattery since April.

There is also Tyler, who is over ten-years-old, and tailless.

Alan Jefferson-Mackney and his wife Lyn take the cats in and vaccinate them straight away.

They are also neutered or spayed and microchipped and all the kittens have leukaemia injections.

Alan said: "We have got cats that have been here for a long time because they get passed by. It seems to be the old, particularly black cats that get left behind."
