A new book by historian Howard Beard gives a unique insight into the illustrious history of one of the most beautiful parts of the Five Valleys.

In Minchinhampton and Amberley Through Time, Howard uses old sepia photographs complemented by modern images to record the changes and developments in the area.

The lively community spirit of Minchinhampton's villagers is celebrated in the book and was officially recognised this summer with the Calor Gloucestershire Village of the Year award.

Amberley is equally celebrated in the book for its secluded beauty, fine views and its literary connections with author Dinah Craik, who wrote John Halifax, Gentleman.

Through the pages, the reader is invited to observe Minchinhampton and Amberley as they are today and to glimpse, using old photographs, how they once were.
