A Brockworth man was today sentenced to five years and nine months at Gloucester Crown Court having pleaded guilty to drugs offences.

26-year-old Brockworth man Paul Davis pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine with intent to supply and attempted possession of ecstasy with intent to supply earlier in the year following a warrant at his address.

police officers carried out a warrant at the Brockworth address on June 11 and recovered cash, cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines and a large quantity of tablets.

Over 120 grams of cannabis were recovered, with a street value of up to £600. 20 grams of amphetamine, with a value of over £200 and 35 grams of cocaine with a value of up to £1700 were also recovered.

2261 tablets were also discovered at the address. Following analysis they were identified as Benzylpiperazine (BZP), which is not currently against the law to possess but selling, supplying or advertising them for human consumption is illegal.

Davis admitted in interview that he believed that these tablets were ecstasy. If sold as ecstasy the tablets would have had a street value of over £6500.

He was sentenced to two years for cocaine supply, 15 months for amphetamine supply, 15 months for the supply of cannabis and 15 months for the attempted supply of ecstasy. His sentences will run concurrently. PC Chris Barnes from the Cheltenham Police Priority and Drug Team said: “The conviction of this man has helped prevent a significant amount of drugs from getting onto the county’s streets.

“Residents should be reassured that we will continue to be committed to tackling the supply of illegal drugs in Gloucestershire.”
