ALAN Raby, 35, was found to have driven with excess alcohol after police traced a trail of oil from a road collision to his house.
Police found Raby's car parked outside his home after they traced oil from Slad Road in Stroud on October 25 last year.
Peter Ashby, prosecuting at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 5 explained that officers smelt alcohol on Raby's breath after he opened the door to them.
Raby, of Woodlands Drive, Stroud, did not admit he had been drinking but a breath test revealed the proportion of alcohol in Raby's breath would have been 43 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath at the time of driving, the legal limit being 35.
Raby, who represented himself, said: " I am sorry for doing it - I have never done anything like this before."
He was fined £100 and banned from driving for 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
