Confident youngsters urged to take part in Rotary club youth leadership scheme

STONEHOUSE Rotary Club is on the look out for a confident, enthusiastic young person to take part in the organisation’s annual Youth Leadership Award programme.

Anyone aged between 16 – 20 is invited to apply to take part in the scheme, which consists of a week-long residential course at The Dean Field Studies Centre in the Forest of Dean from Tuesday, July 27 – Sunday, August 1.

The successful candidate will work alongside up to 150 other young rotarians from across the UK to take part in a host of confidence building tasks – designed to instil and development leadership skills.

Fully supervised by a team of professionals, the week’s activities will include canoeing, climbing, abseiling and orienteering, all of which will be funded by Stonehouse Rotary Club.

Hilary Al Rasheed, who became the first female rotarian in Stonehouse when she joined the club last year, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in the town - offering the successful candidate a chance to learn new skills that can be carried forward through life with them at no expense to themselves or their family.

"If you like the sound of this opportunity then we would love to hear from you. "No previous leadership experience is necessary, however an enthusiasm and desire to succeed is".

All participants will receive a certificate of achievement after the course, at which point the winning candidate will be announced.

Family members and sponsors will also be invited to attend a farewell barbecue event at the venue.

Comprising of more than 32,000 clubs in some 200 countries, Rotary is a non-political, non-religious organisation dedicated to serving communities across the globe.

The closing date for applications is Monday, March 1, and anyone interested in applying for the course can contact Mrs Al Rasheed on 07733 124 356 or via the Stonehouse Rotary Club’s website at www.stonehouserotary.org.uk.
