STROUD’S canal project is well on course after plans to start dredging on the Stroudwater Canal at Stonehouse were approved on Tuesday, February 9.
Stroud District Council granted permission for officials to excavate to a depth of 1.1 metres along a 2.1km stretch between Ocean Bridge and Ryeford Double Locks.
Reeds must first be cleared to support the dredging.
Officials plan to use the dredged silt, plus the cut reeds, as fertiliser on a field near the Horsetrough roundabout.
