PUPILS at Hopeland's school in Stonehouse took to the stage and performed their version of Gel, a modern-day adaptation of Grease.

More than half of the children at the school acted in the musical that parent, Tracy Barber, dubbed a 'huge success.'

The play told the story of two troublesome gangs who were out to destroy the hard work of a local amateur dramatics club.

Mrs Barber, who did the costumes for the production said: "It was absolutely fantastic and they all had such fun doing it.

"All the kids have now decided that they want to star in the next Fame Academy now."

More than 140 people came to watch the play across the two performances and Mrs Barber said that there was a really positive response from everybody who saw it.

She added: "A lot of the parents helped with the play and because rehearsal time was out of school time, a lot of dedication was involved."
