STONEHOUSE residents were taken back to wartime Britain when they celebrated 60 years since the end of the Second World War with a traditional street party.
The town was decorated with bunting and Union Jack flags, and many of the shopkeepers got involved in the atmosphere, with the Baytree Cafe (corr) creating an Allo, Allo style bistro for the day.
About 1,500 people turned up to the event, which featured stalls, Punch and Judy, stocks, activities for children and wartime re-enactments and memorabilia.
Beccy Partridge (corr), manager at Stonehouse Neighbourhood Project, who helped organise the event, said it was a great success.
She added: "It was a really brilliant day and people really enjoyed themselves.
"It brought all the town together because it was a really good community event and everyone got involved."
The day also gave people the opportunity to comment on different aspects of Stonehouse life.
