WHEN Renee Cerf began growing her own fruit and vegetables she never imagined she would be able to grow a tomato reaching an astounding 2lbs 4oz pounds in weight with a circumference of 41cm.

The gardening enthusiast from Thrupp has been growing her own produce for years.

She previously lived in California where she grew 50 varieties of tomatoes.

This is where she received the seeds that would produce her oversized specimen. The Californian marvel stripe has been growing since March in a friend’s polytunnel on allotments in Bisley, where Renee is also attempting to grow a giant pumpkin.

Renee used the tomato to make a salad but has saved the seeds to use again for the next season.
