A 61-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with a cut to his head after being assaulted by a burglar he confronted in his home in Painswick.

The incident occurred in Bisley Street around 8.25pm last night, Tuesday, January 11.

A couple returned to their home and found an intruder in the property, who assaulted the resident before fleeing.

The victim was taken to Stroud Hospital for treatment and released a few hours later.

The intruder is described as a white man of slim build, wearing a dark hooded top.

A bag and a silver-plated coaster have been reported stolen.

Officers are urging anyone who was in the area that may have seen the man running from the address, or any suspicious activity, to contact them immediately on 0845 090 1234, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 421 of January 11.
