A STROUD man has been charged with trespassing at Buckingham Palace after travelling to London to take part in a government cuts protest meeting.

Laurence Flanders, 20, was arrested on Wednesday, January 12, alongside another man, Matthew Bellis, 26, from Harlington, Hayes, as they apparently tried to talk their way through the staff entrance on Buckingham Palace Road.

They were charged with trespassing on a site protected under the Serious Organised Crime and police Act 2005 and appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Thursday.

Flanders was already on bail for throwing objects at police and assaulting an officer during last year’s student riots in the capital.

It is understood the pair were carrying banners criticising the cuts when they were arrested.

Flanders said he had travelled to London to take part in a meeting of the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts.

The pair were remanded in custody until next Thursday, January 20.
