FOSSIL enthusiasts from The Cotswolds will have the chance to see the remains of a creature from the time of the dinosaurs, thanks to the discovery of a five-year-old girl.
Emily Baldry from Chippenham discovered the fossil during a fossil hunt at Cotswold Water Park earlier this year.
The fossil, which has been identified as a deepwater ammonite known as Rieneckia (Collotia) odysseus, dates back 162.8 million years to the Jurassic Period.
It is the latest in a long line of fossil discoveries at the Water Park, including a rare woolly mammoth skull.
The 40cm fossil, which has been named ‘Spike’ after its 2cm defensive spikes, will be on display at Cotswold Water Park’s Gateway Centre from this Sunday.
The fossil will be on display at the South Cerney centre from 10.00am on September 11, where local palaeontologist Dr Neville Hollingworth will give a talk on the fossils history and importance at 3.00pm.
