A PARTY to remember put Stonehouse back on the map on Saturday as shoppers celebrated the re-launch of the High Street following a month-long closure.
Throughout August county highways carried out roadworks to improve the appearance of the town.
The High Street has been revamped in the style of the popular urban concept – shared space – which encourages motorists to share the road with pedestrians.
Traders in the town joined forces with Stonehouse Rotary Club to put on free street entertainment, a bouncy castle, children’s dancing displays and games.
Cotswold Prime Meats ran a barbecue while children decorated gingerbread men at Hurns Hardware.
Further down the High Street shoppers tried their hand at icing cakes at the Sugar Craft shop, while the hosts at the Bay Tree Café wished customers buon appetito in their Italian themed restaurant.
Jane Hill, manager of Sue Ryder charity shop said: "It was a fantastic day. Everyone made a big effort and the traders all put on something special to mark the reopening of the High Street."
