FREE parking for the first two hours in Stonehouse was a suggestion put forward by town councillors at their monthly meeting yesterday.

The proposal, which was unanimously agreed, is being submitted to Stroud District Council.

Cllr David Drew, who submitted the proposal, said he was not happy that motorists were charged 30p for the first hour in the High Street car park while parking was free in towns such as Nailsworth. Two hours in the High Street car park costs 50p.

"Stonehouse is losing out because of this. Why should we subsidise other towns by charging in our car parks?" he said.
