MEMORIES of schooldays are to be shared at a reunion at Thomas Keble School for former members of staff, students and parents.

Those attending the schoolÕs 21st anniversary on Saturday from 2pm to 4.30pm are invited to follow an illustrated timeline through the corridors chartering major events.

Former headteacher Derek Lewis will make an appearance - he left the school in 1998 in the hands of current head Chris Steer.

Mr Lewis, 78, from Somerset, said there were only a couple of staff still working at the school who he would recognise but expected the event to be emotional.

"It is a proud moment for everyone to see how Thomas Keble has flourished," said Mr Lewis, who saw the school through its transition from Manor School to Thomas Keble in 1991.

Initially, the comprehensive had difficulties and in 1990 it took on fewer than 200 pupils whereas today numbers have risen to 700 and the school is oversubscribed.

Mr Steer was quick to praise the strong foundations laid by his predecessor.

"I inherited a school with many strengths and I believe it has grown from this," he said.

In 1999, 32 per cent of GCSEs were graded A to C whereas this year the school achieved a record breaking 74 per cent.

Speaking about the reunion, Mr Steer said: "It is a chance for former pupils to meet with teachers and chat over a cup of coffee.

"In line with the schoolÕs ethos, the 21st anniversary will reflect our values as a friendly place, where care and relationships matter," he said.

At 4pm there is a raffle and a chance to win items such as a hamper and iPods.

On Friday, students are participating in their annual six-mile walk to raise funds for St RoseÕs School Smile Appeal, WinstonÕs Wish, the NSPCC, Cancer Research UK, Afrikids and Help Japan.

Tickets are free and can be booked by calling the school office on 01452 770301.
