DECORATING cards and making fashion accessories were skills Jacqui Jefferies never thought would earn her a living.

But Jacqui, who runs the Craft Emporium in Stonehouse with husband Mike, has been pleasantly surprised with the success of the business which she set up after making and selling wedding invitations from home.

After setting up shop in Queens Road in February, Jacqui was forced to relocate the business to a bigger unit in the town's Barnard Pararde.

She has increased the number of crafters whose products are sold at the store from 35 to 43 and the handmade items on sale include knitted children's clothing, crystal jewellery, beads, belts and bath sets.

"We started the business with the intention of doing something on a small scale over the next few years. But more and more crafters wanted to sell their products in the shop so the business grew and grew," said Jacqui.

"It is great being an outlet for crafters, is like one big family."

Now Jacqui plans to involve even more crafters in her success story by putting on workshops.

Throughout October and November there are workshops in decopatch, soap making and silk painting.
