THE Countess of Wessex visited the Meningitis Trust’s office in Stroud to mark its 25th Anniversary.

As guest of honour she unveiled a commemorative plaque and spent time meeting with the charity’s staff as well as those affected by the disease.

Food growers were celebrating after allotments on the derelict Cashes Green Hospital site were re-opened as part of a development project spearheaded by TV’s Grand Designs presenter, Kevin McCloud.

The site had been fenced off when the hospital closed in 1993 and its re-opening delighted allotment holders.

Lilly Allen tied the knot with construction worker Sam Cooper at a service held in St James the Great Church in Cranham.

Former Have I Got News For You presenter Angus Deayton and comedian Harry Enfield were among the guests at the wedding ceremony.

Stroud College principal Beri Hare and the National Trust’s head of archaeology David Thackray both received OBEs in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Dr Beri Hare was awarded the honour for her services to further education and Dr David Thackray, who lives in Stroud, received the accolade for his services to heritage.

Parents and pupils raised nearly £4,000 to improve library facilities at St Rose’s School fete.

Children enjoyed pony rides around the grounds of the special needs school in Stratford Lawn, Stroud.
