STROUD MP Neil Carmichael has said he will be objecting to proposals for an incinerator at Javelin Park once planning permission is sought.

The Tory MP has written to more than 700 constituents who signed a petition against the incinerator to inform them of his position.

In the letter he writes: "I have already written about this issue to the county council and you will be pleased to hear that I will be objecting to the proposals on your behalf when the application is considered by the county planning committee.

"I would encourage as many local residents to do so individually in order to demonstrate the strength of feeling on this proposal."

Mr Carmichael told the SNJ he had three key concerns - the design and visual impact of the facility, the possibility of large lorries transporting waste through Stonehouse and the potential for noises and smells from the plant.
