ARTIST Rachel Markwick received a letter of thanks from Buckingham Palace after sending the Queen a copy of a jubilee collage she made using British stamps.
Rachel, of Bisley Road, Stroud, used hundreds of stamps which all show members of the royal family or images of iconic events in British cultural life such as winning the 1966 World Cup.
Most of the stamps were issued since 1952.
"Someone said I should send it to the Queen," she explained.
"I didn’t think anything of it but then I had a personal letter from Buckingham Palace saying that the Queen wanted to thank me for the splendid card I sent her."
Rachel began using stamps to create artwork while on a fine art access course at Stroud college in 2002.
She began by using her late father’s stamp collection to create collages and now creates designs with many different themes.
Rachel’s canvases will be displayed behind the bar at the Amberley Inn, Amberley during the jubilee weekend and A3 size designs are being stocked at Made in Stroud.
