Police have arrested a Stroud man on suspicion of assault after a 49-year-old local man was found on a canal path with a stab wound to his back.

The ambulance service alerted the police to the injured man at around 6.15 this morning, Friday June 15.

He was found on a footpath that runs over the canal near to the new road layout on the A419 in the town.

He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where his injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Officers have arrested a 54-year-old man from Stroud on suspicion of assault in connection to the investigation.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 53 of June 15.
