Last week in Parliament was exceptionally busy.

It started with the second reading of the Enterprise and Regulatory Bill.

I contributed to the debate by highlighting my views on several aspects of the proposed Green Investment Bank - one of the bill’s principle measures.

I will be serving on the bill committee for the next six weeks so will be able to contribute in detail to this important legislation, drawing from knowledge garnered during visits to local businesses.

I also participated in the second reading debate on the Defamation Bill and an opposition debate on the protection of children - currently a subject being carefully considered by the Education Select Committee.

I also asked two parliamentary questions in addition to a number of committee meetings, meetings with individuals and policy discussions.

Back in the constituency, I chaired a meeting of the Canal Forum I established soon after being elected as MP.

One of the key purposes of the forum is to ensure that all stakeholders along the canal can contribute to the development of the areas along the waterside.

To this end, the forum is establishing two neighbourhood plan groups to take this process a significant step forward.

I attended several other events and meetings. Of particular interest was the ‘Print on the Wild Side’ exhibition in St John’s Church, Slimbridge, where the Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative (GPC) displayed an exciting range of fine art prints. GPC is based at Griffin Mill in Thrupp and is active in promoting and facilitating printmaking.

I also was a guest at the Dursley Rugby Club dinner dance.

This was a fantastic occasion, strongly supported by a thriving club membership and celebrating a good season. The event was highly enjoyable and a powerful reminder of the vital role sports clubs play in our communities.

Fortunately, the weather conditions were not as predicated. On Saturday, I attended the Trooping of the Colour on Horse Guards Parade, London. This was a splendid occasion in every way with infantry, cavalry and artillery working in perfect ceremonial harmony - unforgettable.
