PHOTOGRAPHER Carl Hewlett takes a look through the SNJ archives.
Included in the old editions of the paper we looked through this week was a story about a woman and her dog struck who were struck by misfortune.
After her pet became injured during a walk on the common, its owner was struck on the head by a stray golf ball. A unfortunate day for the pair.
The uncovering of a mammoth tusk in Cainscross was big news while we came across some lovely old adverts for films featuring stars of yesteryear such as John Wayne.
These were being screened at the former Ritz cinema, now the Warehouse nightclub in London Road.
Readers were also informed that after a hard day at work, the perfect way to relax was with a beer.
