STROUD’S branch of Clinton Cards will close its doors for the last time on Monday, July 30, with the loss of five jobs.
A closing-down sale is currently in place at the store in Merrywalks Shopping Centre, which is one of 76 UK branches that remained unsold in a recent buyout of the greetings cards giant.
Lakeshore Lending Ltd, a subsidiary of American Greetings Corporation, purchased 397 stores last month - safeguarding some 4,500 jobs – but no buyer was found for the company’s remaining estate.
These stores will be nationally closed by the end of July, resulting in some 550 job cuts.
Peter Saville, a partner at Clinton Cards’ joint administrators Zolfo Cooper said: “It is with regret that we have had to take the decision to close the remaining stores.
“We are nonetheless pleased that in an extremely challenging retail environment we were able to effect the sale of almost 400 stores, thus preserving something in the region of 4,500 jobs.
“I would to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of the former Clinton Cards business we have worked with during the administration period for their professionalism and dedication and to wish them well for the future.”
