NEWS from Horsley if anyone has any newsworthy items they would like publicised from Horsley, please let me know perhaps there is something going on at the shop or the church, it would be good to reach the wider readership.

On Saturday, August 4, the Weaving Shed at Gigg Mill, Nailsworth (GL6 0JF) will be open from 10am to noon. Visitors can try their hands at weaving a pattern as well as seeing demonstrations of the flying shuttle and a power loom. Allow 45 minutes for the visit. There is a small charge.

On Sunday, July 5 the Mill Centre at Dunkirk Mill will be open 2pm to 4pm with demonstrations of Victorian textile machinery, some driven by a large water wheel. See how the finish on a fine Stroud scarlet cloth was produced. Parking for the disabled at the mill otherwise please walk along the cycle track from Nailsworth (GL5 5HH). There is a small charge, allow 30 minutes for the visit.

Nailsworth Society's next ramble is tomorrow, Thursday, July 26. Starting at The Woolpack in Slad, this five mile walk takes in hills and valleys, through woodland and passing Snows Farm nature reserve. Good views of the Slad and Painswick valleys. Some steep gradients and wet/muddy patches, so stout footwear advised. We will meet outside Nailsworth library at 9.30am for drive to Slad, and lunch will be available at The Woolpack after the walk. The mobile police station pays us a visit again on Thursday, July 26, thanks to a bit of publicity, it is becoming popular. Police station car park from 1.30pm to approximately 2.15pm.

On Monday, August 6, Nailsworth Society's Arts Crafts and Music Group is meeting in the Mortimer room from 7.30pm Dave Walton will give a talk called 'art and chairs, from Morris to Voysey'. A wine tasting has been booked for the evening.

New to the area? The Nailsworth Society has regular weekly meetings on a Monday. The arts, crafts and music group meets on the first Monday in the month, the local history group meets on the second Monday, the gardening group meets on the third Monday and local studies is on the fourth Monday. Walking for Health led walks take place in Nailsworth at 2pm each Tuesday, departing from the library. Anyone is welcome.
