PAINSWICK is one of the latest communities in the region to be earmarked for faster broadband.

Last week, BT announced a faster broadband boost for more than 15,000 homes and businesses across the county.

Painswick will benefit from upgrades as part of the rollout of BT's next generation broadband service, which is delivered over copper lines.

It comes as a House of Lords committee criticised the Government's broadband strategy by saying it had focused on delivering speed instead of wider coverage.

The BT investment will make available download speeds of up to 20 megabits per second.

District councillor Nigel Cooper (Con, Painswick), said: "I was delighted last week to note that my home broadband speed had leapt from 0.710Mbps to 1.1Mbps.

"Faster broadband availability to rural areas in the district is something I have always championed and should be a priority."
