POLICE urging parents to talk to their children about the dangers of playing on the banks of the River Severn.

The warning comes after a den was found in a precarious position beside the Severn near Fretherne.

A local resident alerted the authorities to the ‘hideout’, which appeared to be made from pallets and boulders, after becoming concerned about its proximity to the fast flowing river.

PC Kelly Akers: “We believe this den has been built by local children to play in but it’s in an extremely dangerous location. The edge of the land it’s on is unstable and the current in the water below can be very strong.

“We don’t want to see any young people being injured, or worse, and as such we would urge parents to remind their children about the dangers of playing in or near the river.”
